Coyotes prospect named to U.S. World Junior team

Phoenix Coyotes prospect Peter Mueller has been selected by USA Hockey to play for Team USA at the 2007 World Junior Championships.  The tournament will be played in Sweden from Dec. 26 - Jan. 5.  Mueller was selected by the Coyotes with the eighth overall choice in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. 

The upcoming tournament will mark the second time Mueller has played in the World Junior Championships.  Mueller was the youngest member for Team USA at the 2006 World Junior Championships in British Columbia, recording 2-4-6 and 26 penalty minutes (PIM) in seven games to rank tied for fourth on the team in scoring.

The native of Bloomington, Minn., also tallied 4-3-7 and 20 PIM in 6 games at the 2005 Under-18 World Junior Championships to help lead Team USA to a gold medal and finish second on the squad in scoring. 

This season, Mueller has registered 7-36-43 and 12 PIM in 23 games with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.  His 36 assists lead the WHL and he ranks 3^rd in the league in points.  The 18-year-old was named WHL Player of the Month for November on Monday after posting 4-21-25 in 12 games.  Mueller has led Everett to a record of 24-2-0-1 and a WHL-best winning percentage of .907 this season. 

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Mueller was named 2005-06 WHL Rookie of the Year after recording 26-32-58 and 44 PIM in 52 games with Everett last season.
