CAHA bantam 95’s ring in New Year right
The CAHA Bantam 95's certainly got 2010 off on the right foot, winning its first two tournaments of the year, including the Coyote Cup in which the Jr. Coyotes skated to a perfect 5-0 mark while outscoring their opponents, 25-5.
"The boys played very well," said head coach Rick Tosto. "We were particularly proud of our entire team's defense play, which limited the number of opposing scoring opportunities throughout the tournament."
After celebrating their fourth straight Coyote Cup title, the Bantams went on to lay claim to the Wild West Shootout championship on home ice over MLK Weekend.
"I'm definitely pleased with the team's progress from the start of the season," said Tosto. "To tell you the truth, our success has been attributed to a total team effort."
Case in point: With players lost to injuries and sickness, others have maneuvered from forward and defense without complaint.
"It certainly helps to have kids willing to sacrifice their own personal goals for the benefit of their teammates," said Tosto.
Rayce Miller, Calvin LeBrun, Josh Dixson, Kevin Clancey, Andrew Marinaro, Ryan Tosto, James Summa, Brendan Kane and Dillon Teed lead the Jr. Coyotes' offensive charge, with Tanner Tuohy, Shawn Winikates, Christian O'Dowd, Brennen Johnsson, David Ferrara and Tanner Ferrandi all providing solid contributions on defense.
Goaltenders Cooper Johnston and Michael Montaruli have both answered the call between the pipes.
"Honestly, they're a great group of kids," said Tosto. "They all get along well, on and off the ice. It's a pleasure to coach this bunch."
