Silver Stick in Canada a valued experience for IE Runners' 16 AA’s
The Inside Edge Runners' Midget 16 AA team made its way north of the border last month to compete in the International Silver Stick in Newmarket, Ontario.
"It was a learning experience for all of us," said head coach Shawn Babin.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, where the team learned more about the history of the game, admired exhibits and posed for photos with the Stanley Cup.
On the ice, forward Eric Gatson enjoyed one of his best weekends of the season.
"With state playdowns coming next month, we'll hopefully use what we learned in Canada, both on and off the ice, to our advantage and excel to represent Arizona in the Rocky Mountain district tournament and beyond," said Babin.
The Runners played their Silver Stick regional qualifier in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving. There, they finished with a 2-1-1 record and, despite a loss in the semifinals, still earned a berth to the international event.
