Mercyhurst unanimous women's No. 1

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mercyhurst College, which won two games against Syracuse University last weekend, is the unanimous No. 1 in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll. The Lakers, who improved to 27-2-3 on the season, hold the top spot for the 20th straight poll after collecting 190 points all 19 first-place votes.

The University of Minnesota Duluth (169) retains the No. 2 spot after two wins against the University of North Dakota, while the the University of Minnesota (152), which also won twice against Minnesota State University, holds the No. 3 position. Harvard University (125), which collected a pair of wins against Princeton University, stays at No. 4, while the University of New Hampshire (114) rounds out the top five after an idle weekend.

Highlighting this upcoming weekend's games are two top-10 match-ups, with No. 6 Clarkson University hosting No. 4 Harvard in the ECAC Hockey tournament semifinals, and No. 7 University of Connecticut traveling to No. 10 Providence College in the Hockey East Association semifinals.

NOTES: The top 10 finalists for the 2010 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award were announced today (March 2). The top three finalists will be announced on March 9. For tickets to the 2010 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award brunch ceremony and to view the top 10, visit PattyKaz.com ... Hockey East boasts four ranked programs. ECAC Hockey has three ranked teams, while the Western Collegiate Hockey Association has two ranked programs. Mercyhurst is the only ranked College Hockey America team ... A total of 15 teams received votes.

ABOUT THE POLL: The 13th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the four NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
